Financial Counselling

Service provided

Financial counsellors help people to:

• understand which debts are priorities,
• develop budgets and money plans,
• understand the pros and cons of different options to manage financial issues,
• access grants or concessions,
• negotiate with creditors,
• access dispute resolution services, and
• understand their rights and access legal help.

In this region there are Financial Counsellors who specialise in:

• Gambling,
• Family violence, and
• Natural disasters.

The service is free, and there is no income or asset test to access the service.

The service is offered Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm. After hours appointments by arrangements.

Eligibility criteria

People experiencing one of the following are eligible to access this service:

• Victorians on a low income experiencing financial difficulties,
• People experiencing family violence,
• People unable to pay their bills or at imminent risk of not being able to do so.
• People who are at risk of/or are experiencing gambling related harm.
